Howdy!
Our Role in the College
The Finance & Business Services team specifically manages the daily finance operations of all the Dean’s Office units: EAHR, EPSY, KNSM, TLAC, Research and the Texas A&M University Children’s Centers. The office also serves as the liaison between the college and various university central offices.
Business Services provides a wide variety of administrative functions, including, but not limited to:
- Coordinating business processes requiring Dean approval
- Managing fiscal responsibilities for the college
- Providing faculty, staff, and student financial services
- Finance compliance and reporting

IMPLEMENTATION
Internal Collaboration Initiatives:
The What: Regular collaboration circles involving our coordinator teams, administrator teams, and unit leadership. Will discuss challenges, share ideas, and create solutions to problems.
The How: Rotate facilitators, encourage participation from all team members, and develop at least one actionable improvement per session (e.g., a process tweak or a new communication practice).
Efficiency & Effectiveness Project Teams:
The What: Focuses on specific efficiency or service improvement areas.
The How: Set clear objectives, enable team members to propose solutions, and celebrate implementations by sharing results across the department.
Peer Recognition Program:
The What: Establish a monthly or quarterly program where team members can nominate colleagues who exemplify collaborations, efficiency, or support.
The How: Highlight winners in team meetings or newsletters and invite them to share best practices or stories about how they helped the team or advanced a process.
Continuous Growth and Learning Opportunities:
The What: Access to ongoing training and professional development opportunities and mentorship; develop career goals and career planning.
The How: Encourage each team member to set professional growth goals related to collaboration and/or process improvement. Participate and attend trainings, workshops, and conference and report back key ideas and share successes.
Dean Hobbs leads the Finance and Business, Technology Services, Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness, and Facilities operations for the College of Education and Human Development. Located 803 HAR.

CEHD Finance and Business Services Peer Recognition Program
Overview and Guidelines
Objective: Establish a monthly or quarterly recognition program that allows CEHD Finance and Business Services team members to nominate colleagues who exemplify collaborations, efficiency, professionalism, or outstanding support.
Program Overview
The Peer Recognition Program is designed to celebrate CEHD Finance and Business Services employees who go above and beyond in supporting the mission, values, and operational excellence of the unit. By empowering staff to nominate one another, the program encourages a culture of appreciation, teamwork, and shared success.
Nomination Criteria
Team members may be nominated for demonstrating one or more of the following:
· Collaboration: Actively fosters teamwork, communication, and cooperation.
· Efficiency: Improves processes, solves problems effectively, or contributes to operational excellence.
· Support: Provides exceptional assistance to colleagues or departments.
· Professionalism: Upholds positive, respectful, and dependable workplace behavior.
Nomination Process
· A simple online nomination form will be made available each month or quarter.
· Any team member may submit a nomination describing the colleague’s contribution and impact.
· Nominations may be reviewed by an Assistant Dean for Finance and Business Services to ensure fairness and consistency in the selection process.
Recognition
Recipients of the Peer Recognition Program may be recognized through one or more of the following methods:
· Public acknowledgment in department newsletters or meetings
· Certificate of appreciation
· Highlight on departmental website or internal communications
· Invitation to share best practices or insights during team meetings
The recognition format can be adapted to department preferences.
Program Frequency
· Monthly: Ideal for larger teams or high-activity environments
· Quarterly: Recommended for smaller departments or when wanting more curated recognition
